On Monday, a 37-year-old bar operator who was identified as Lucky Esonahae was arraigned on one count bordering on causing bodily harm by setting his pregnant lover on fire.

The prosecuting officer, Sergeant Ganiyu Yahya, told the court that the incident took place  at Uwelu Quartres in Benin, and was reported by the victim, Stella Isaac, on July 6, the same day it occurred.

Yahya said Esonahae poured kerosene on Stella, who was said to be 7 months pregnant, lit a match and set her on fire.

He said that the victim was later rescued by one of her sons and her neighbours, who forced the door of her room open, as she had been locked in.
He said the victim, who was later rushed to the Central Hospital, where she received treatment sustained burns on her hands and forehead.
The police prosecutor also told the court that Esonahae had earlier accused the pregnant woman of infidelity for allegedly returning at about 6pm from her ante-natal care and had threatened to kill her, before she ran to her sister’s residence.

The charge read:
“That you, Lucky Esonahae, on July 6, 2015, at Uwelu Quartres, Benin, in the Egor Magisterial District, did cause grievous harm to one Stella Isaac, by setting her on fire with kerosene, which cause her bodily harm and, thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 355(B) of the Criminal Code Cap 48, Vol. II, Law of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, as applicable to Edo State.”
The accused pleaded guilty to the offence and begged for leniency.

But the presiding magistrate, Igho Braimoh, said the court would not be lenient, adding, “for a 37-year-old man to set a lover on fire leaves much to be desired.”

She, therefore, sentenced him to 5 years in prison with hard labour.

AFTER HIS JEEP DISOBEYED TRAFFIC AND CRASH IN ABUJA,AKPABIO WERE RUSHED TO HOSPITAL

August 31, 2015

Senate Minority Leader and former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, escaped death in Abuja on Monday morning after his car got involved in an accident along the busy Airport Road.

The accident occurred near the Bolingo Junction close to the Ship House in Abuja. A witness disclosed that Mr. Akpabio was moving in a convoy of vehicles towards the City Gate when his vehicle ran into another car.

“My wife and I were coming from the NNPC Mega Station and we stopped at the traffic light by Bolingo Hotel Junction. When the green light showed and we made to move, there was this siren-blaring Mercedes Benz jeep that came from the town and almost crashed onto my car. I don’t know how we dodged but another that was behind the jeep hit the car behind me and tumbled on its side.

“I and my wife rushed out of our vehicle and helped the driver bring out his boss. When we brought him out, we found that it was former governor Godswill Akpabio.

“At the time we brought him out, the siren was still blaring. We put him in the other vehicle and he was rushed to the National Hospital,” the eyewitness told Premium Times.

He said Mr. Akpabio was badly shaken and was in a traumatic condition when he was brought out of the crashed vehicle. He said the former governor was apparently rushing out of the city when his convoy beat the traffic and crashed.

Akpabio was still at the National Hospital in Abuja as at the time of posting.

Sunday, August 30, 2015

The body of a man identified as Christian Isha from Ndubia village, Igbeagu Community in Izzi local government area of Ebonyi State, who was kidnapped a week ago by unknown gunmen, was found with his private part mutilated and face skinned in a swamp in Igbeagbu community in Ebonyi state yesterday August 29th.

According to reports, Christian who is said to be in his 40s had gone out to buy some things for his family when he was whisked away inside a hilux bus and taken to an unknown destination.

A relative of the deceased who spoke on how he was found said
‘One of us went to his farm. While in the farm, he said he perceived bad odour and that the odour was so offensive that no one could stand it. So, when the man was searching for the source of the odour, he saw the dead body of our brother who have been missing for the past one week,” he said
Widow of the deceased, Isha Ada described her husband as a peaceful man and wondered why he was killed in such a manner.
‘I never believed my husband could be killed in this manner because he doesn’t look for anyone’s trouble. And those who killed him will never know peace in life. He was good to me, caring and tolerant. Today I have lost a companion, a loving man and a true husband,” she said
The Ebonyi police command has launched a full scaled investigation into the matter.

BUHARI CLASH WITH JONATHAN AGAIN FOR SECRET STEALING

00:35 0 Comments

August 30, 2015

There are indications that President Muhammadu Buhari and his predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan may be set for another clash regarding the recovery of stolen funds from the nation’s coffers.

The reason for this may not be unconnected with what a source described as “the seemingly uncooperative disposition of some of those who are believed have siphoned funds from government coffers”.

The source added: “While some of those believed to have been involved have had their accounts frozen, some have lawfully been interrogated while confessions are being extracted. There are enough grounds to believe that the nature of discourse in the political sphere is creating an air of audacity such that the recovery of looted funds is not going at an encouraging pace in the face of overwhelming evidence.”

Vanguard has been able to establish, through individuals saddled with the responsibility of ascertaining and verifying some expenditure activities, that there were some contracts merely awarded on paper and for which payments were quickly made without corresponding jobs to show for the contracts.

It was learnt that high levels of fraud were discovered in the Ministry of Petroleum, Works, Nigerian Maritime and Safety Authority, NIMASA and in the procurement of arms and ammunitions for the prosecution of the war against Boko Haram, just to mention a few.

Indeed, members of some of the committees that Buhari has set up to ascertain the level of loss to the nation pointed out that the scale of the stealing of public funds, especially in the last days of the Jonathan administration, was so monumental that those asking for a soft-landing for the former president and his aides would be flabbergasted when confronted with the scale of looting that took place.

A NEW BORN BABY IN A NYLON BAG ON A STREET DUMPED BY A 24 YEAR OLD MOTHER

00:27 0 Comments

Sunday, August 30, 2015

According to Mr and Mrs Osarhiakhi Ebohon, on June 13, 2015, a baby was dumped at Obazuaye Street in Evbuareke Quarters, Uselu, Benin City, at about 11am.
Residents saw a newborn baby wrapped in a black nylon bag. The Ebohons, among other residents, placed curses on whoever might have thrown the child away.
The police was invited to take away the baby who was later sent to the Ministry of Women Affairs in Edo State.

That night, Mrs. Ebohon observed that their oldest daughter, Joy, was acting different, so she tried to find out what her daughter’s problem was, to no avail.

So she told the husband to probe Joy to know what the problem was.

At about 5am the following day, Mr Ebohon woke Joy up and forcibly asked her to tell him the cause of her unease.
Joy then opened up to her parents that she was the one who dumped the child on the street.
Her angry father went to the police to report the matter.

Mr Ebohon then handed over the daughter to the police for prosecution.

She was arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Benin by the police on June 17 and was remanded in Oko prisons pending advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) on the matter.

Now, Mr and Mrs Ebohon are appealing for the release of the daughter whose first son is barely two years old.
Narrating the incident, Ebohon, a farmer, said:
“I decided to go to the village to farm because of the difficulty to get money to train my children. My daughter, Osarhiakhi Joy, in jail now, left secondary school some years back. She is my eldest daughter and she is 28 years old.
About five years ago, she wrote her SSCE and passed all her papers and got admission into the College of Education, Ekiadolor, but I couldn’t pay the fees. I begged her to be patient till some other time. Before I knew it, she became pregnant. I called the boy responsible and told him that I didn’t want any stupid act and asked if he was going to marry her and he said yes.
Then I told him the condition that my daughter wanted to further her education by studying pharmacy and he said okay. So she gave birth to the first child, a boy, who is about two years now. After that, she told me she couldn’t be staying at home, that she wanted to learn a trade before gaining admission and pending when the husband, or myself would be financially okay to send her back to school. I said it was okay. That is how she started learning fashion designing.
She told her husband to come and beg me so that, at times, she could be staying with me because her place of work is closer to us and they don’t have their personal house. That is how she stated living with us again. I never knew she was pregnant this second time because I don’t stay in Benin; even the mother that stays in Benin never knew about it. I didn’t know she will be this clever to cover-up without our notice. “On June13, I came to Benin from the village to relax.
I discovered people were shouting that they discovered a baby very close to my compound. I never had the belief that it was my daughter who gave birth to the baby. I was taking my siesta that afternoon when I woke up and ran to the place and I had been hearing the cry of a little baby thinking it was the next compound. I and my wife were among the first person to place curse on the culprit. I was the same person who organized to go call the police that what the person did was bad.
“The next day when I was ready to go back to the village, my wife called me to say I should ask our daughter that the way she was looking at her, there were changes in her. Then I called my daughter at about 5 am and told her to tell me the truth so that I could help her. That was when she told me that she was the one, I was about to collapse but as a man I controlled myself and asked her who was responsible for the pregnancy. She said it was the husband though they are not married.
When I asked her why she behaved that way, she said when she told her husband about the pregnancy, he told her to go and abort it. She said she wanted to tell me but didn’t know what confused her. I was annoyed and took her hand to the chief security officer in my street to arrest her and let her suffer for what she has done so that others will learn from her.
Then I took my bag and left for the village because I was having an appointment that morning with some people that are going to work in my farm.
“The same day, they called the police and handed her over to them.
She was detained at Textile Mill Police Station with her mother. When I heard about it, I didn’t care because what she did, I was not happy with it. Since then she has been in custody. It was later I heard that she was remanded in Oko prisons after the Evboriaria Magistrate Court said it was not in the position to handle the case as it is within the jurisdiction of the High Court. So they sent the file to the DPP.
I said I wouldn’t be part of the case but it was later that people were begging me to realize that my daughter is not a wayward child; that something must have happened. Maybe the way the husband threatened her must have made her do it and she knows I don’t tolerate nonsense because I told her to be very careful as marriage is for better for worse.
Then I called the husband and asked if he was responsible for the baby, and he said no. I called the two sisters of the man and told them to ask their brother if he is the one. They started saying that their brother was not the father of the child, that he was ready to go anywhere for a test, that even the first child, he was not sure if he is the father, that he had to do a test before he could accept him.
In fact the boy said we should go to Ayelala (native doctor) to find out that he was not the father of the child. Now I have so much pity for my daughter who already has a two-year-old son with us. I want her released. I had to act the way I did because what she did was bad. But I have realized that my daughter has learnt from her mistakes.
We are going to take care of the child. People should realize that I am not a bad person; if I am, I would not have informed the police to arrest her. The child is at the orphanage home now. We will accept the baby if my daughter is released. I am begging the authorities”. Asked if she was not aware that her daughter was pregnant, Mrs Ebohon said, “ I was not aware of the pregnancy and I don’t know how she kept the pregnancy that I was not aware.
The first one, I was the one that detected it but this one she hid it from me. She told me that the husband is the cause of everything because she wanted to go to school when she got admission into the college of education. Because we didn’t have money, she couldn’t go to school, that is how the boy hooked her. After the father informed the police, they came to arrest us and took statement from me and her; fromTextile Mill Police Station, she was taken to Esigie Police Station.
She was there for some weeks and I have been going to see her and people were saying it was not her fault; she even said it was the husband who frustrated her that she had to hid it from us.
Though we were annoyed of what she did, people were begging us to pardon her that it is not her fault since she she was not able to take care of the first one. In fact she had that baby on June 13 but the child was discovered on June 16.
When we even went to the Ministry of Women Affairs to see the child, they said they will not allow us to see her.
My daughter is in prison now crying and begging God to forgive her, and release her to unite with her baby. She insists on going back to school if the opportunity comes”.
It was a pitiable sight when Sunday Vanguard, in the company of her parents, visited Joy at Oko prisons; she wept uncontrollably when she saw her son. Asked why she decided to throw away the child, she narrated:
“I was frustrated because my husband threatened that if I didn’t remove the pregnancy, he will not accept it. And I was afraid of telling my parents because my father will not take it lightly with me.
What happened was that I went to the toilet to have my bath. As I was bathing, I entered into labour, the child came out smoothly. I was confused on what to do. I got a nylon bag around, quickly poured water on my body to clean up the blood. I rushed out of the bedroom, walked down the street and quietly dropped the child on the ground and came back home”.
Asked how she felt when people were placing curses on her, she said:
“I was feeling very bitter inside me. I wept without people knowing why I was crying. It was because of my condition that my mother started suspecting me.
I was scared on what to do because my father will not be happy with me that my husband rejected the baby, while my husband warned me he will not accept the child if I kept it.
And I didn’t really want to abort the baby. I have prayed God to forgive me, people should forgive and allow me go and take care of my baby.
Poverty caused this problem for me, if not I would not have met this man. But God will judge him for rejecting this child that is his blood”.

A HEALTH FELT NEWS:FAMILY SMASH INTO TOMB OF A GIRL WHO WOKE UP SCREAMING AND BANGING ON HER COFFIN AFTER BEING BURIED ALIVE...ONLY TO DIE AGAIN

11:35 0 Comments

Tuesday, August 25, 2015

A 'dead' teenager woke up in her coffin and screamed for help one day after she was buried – but died again before desperate relatives could save her. Grieving family members pictured above breaking through the concrete tomb from where Neysi Perez, 16, had been heard 'banging and screaming'.
Relatives who removed the girl's corpse found that the glass viewing window on her coffin had been smashed and the tips of her fingers were bruised. But despite efforts to revive her medics found no signs of life and she was later returned to the cemetery and reburied in the same mausoleum.

Ms Perez, who was three months pregnant, reportedly fell unconscious after waking up in the night to use the outside toilet at her home in La Entrada, western Honduras.
It was believed she may have collapsed in an apparent panic attack after hearing a burst of gunfire.
But when the teenager started foaming at the mouth her religious parents called the local priest believing she had become possessed by an evil spirit. Relatives told how the priest tried to exorcise her, but she later became lifeless and was rushed to hospital, where three hours later doctors declared her dead.
Ms Perez was buried in the wedding dress she had recently used to get married.
A day after her funeral, her husband Rudy Gonzales was visiting her grave at the La Entrada General Cemetery when he heard banging and muffled screams from inside the concrete tomb and raised the alarm.
The footage shows desperate family members breaking through the concrete block tomb with a sledgehammer, before bringing out and opening up Ms Perez's coffin to try to revive her.

Mr Gozales told local TV news Primer Impacto: 'I was heartbroken because my sweetheart had been taken so suddenly from me. I wanted to be near to her.
'As I put my hand on her grave I could hear noises inside. I heard banging, then I heard her voice. She was screaming for help.
'It had already been a day since we buried her. I couldn't believe it. I was ecstatic, full of hope.'
Cemetery worker Jesus Villanueva said he had also heard noises coming from the grave.
He said: 'I convinced myself that the screams were coming from somewhere else. I never imagined that there was someone alive in there.
'That afternoon the girl's husband came to me begging me to get her out because she was alive.
'He was hysterical. The family were soon here and started breaking through the tomb, shouting her name.'
Ms Perez was taken by truck to the nearest hospital in San Pedro Sula, where she was carried in still inside her coffin.
But although medics tried to revive her, all the tests they carried out showed that she was clinically dead.
Doctor Claudia Lopez recalled: 'The whole family rushed in, almost breaking the door down, carrying the girl in her casket.
'I told them to take her out and put her on the bed. Everybody was claiming she was alive so I went through all the necessary procedures.
'We evaluated and tried everything but the girl was dead. They put her back in the coffin and took her away again, back to the cemetery.'
Doctors believe Ms Perez may have suffered a severe panic attack which could have temporarily stopped her heart activity.
Another hypothesis is that the teenager had a cataplexy attack, an abrupt temporary loss of voluntary muscle function typically triggered by a strong emotional stimulus such as stress or fear, during which the victim maintains full conscious awareness.
She may then have died from lack of oxygen after waking up inside the closed coffin.
Her cousin, Carolina Perez, said: 'Once we had taken her out of the tomb I put my hand on her body. She was still warm, and I felt a faint heart beat.
'She had scratches on her forehead and bruises on her fingers. It looked like she had tried desperately to get out of the casket and hurt herself.
Ms Perez's mother Maria Gutierrez firmly believes her daughter was buried alive and blames medics for being too quick to sign her death certificate.
She said: 'The doctors declared her dead but everybody else around me kept telling me she wasn't. She didn't look like she had died.
'Even after a day in the tomb the colour of her body was normal, her corpse didn't smell, she just looked like she was in a deep sleep.
'There was no rigamortis, her body was still flexible, it was impossible that she had been dead for so many hours.
'We were all so happy. After being declared dead for such a long time, everybody was saying that she had come back to life.
'We were all so happy. I thought I was going to get my daughter back.'

A MESSAGE TO THE LADIES

14:42 0 Comments

20 AUGUST 2015
He has proposed to you; so what?
He now has access to your body every night; after all, he has proposed. He has
asked you not to worry about pregnancy because he would be happy if it comes and you gladly took that in; are you not a disgrace to your parents?
Was your mother pregnant before your father paid her bride price?
How could you, an African girl, move in with a man who doesn't know where you father lives?
That's the greatest insult you can ever
give your parents. Many like you have been abandoned with seven months pregnancy and so you won't be the first to experience that.
You have to move in with him just because of the proposal; your eyes will soon see clearly. He now controls you,
your life, career, and your job when he
has not even gone for introduction and
he tells you that's the way it should be; may God help you because it's obvious
he's rehearsing how to make you miserable in future.
Well, he has succeeded in making you
believe that everything is normal in the
21st century. He is using you to make
himself happy. I am happy for the guy
because he is enjoying the benefits of
marriage without being married. He has
turned you to his chef, housekeeper, and errands girl. He's even enjoying 'nri
awoof' (free meals) from you. He's saving his own money and using it for
something meaningful while you spend
yours on him, not because you want to, but because he has succeeded in
putting it into your head that he's a very
expensive trophy that must be worn. I
know; you have to beat other
contestants in this race.
Abeg (please), if you love yourself, stop
acting Mrs. when you are yet to become
one. Remain "Miss' and 'Ms.' until your father gives his blessing. Don't let your
precious time be occupied by a man
who may not be going anywhere with
you after all the talks. Let him come for
you whenever he is ready (if you are still
available).
But like I said, you can choose to be engaged for five years; his biological clock isn't ticking; yours is. I just hope you don't punish other innocent guys for the mistake of another which you are a party to.
Ladies, if he gets you engaged and no
marriage plans after twelve months,
please disengage yourself and be available. You can date him for as long
as you (not him) want, but he shouldn't
talk about marriage until he is ready to
be married. Many have been tied down;
many have lost their future all in the
name of 'we are engaged' and 'I will
marry you'.
Never lie to yourself. It's good for you
to go closer to your brothers and listen
to them. Stop thinking you know
everything when it's obvious you are
naive. Be in love, but please, take your
brain along. Call it westernization(suc) or whatever you like, no amount of love or lust should make a responsible African lady to move in with a man who hasn't shown respect to her father.
Diamonds are valued and cherished;
they don't come cheap.
You are a diamond; a very rare diamond, if he wants you, let him pay the price to have you.
This has nothing to do with pride, it's
called self-worth and you should have it.
As long as you are worth chasing after,
stop chasing after him.
A girl once came telling me that she was a live-in-love. Three years of free food and this guy did nothing. I advised her to move out and let him come whenever he wanted her. This very girl is intelligent and homely. Three weeks after she left, the guy ran to propose to her. Today, they are happily married with kids.
If he has everything he should be
married for, why should he be in a haste
for marriage? For sex, you give him
'jara' (bonus) because you must use
that to keep him. Even if he wants a
baby, your legs are wide open. Why then would he stress himself to have you
when he already has you plus the
extras?
Think again and give your parents the
respect they deserve.
Make sure you don't misunderstand the message.
God bless
